Federación de Colegios de Arquitectos de la República Mexicana AC
On February 28, 1791, Miguel Constanzo recommended to the viceregal authorities that the Amor de Dios Building be named to house the Royal Academy of San Carlos in New Spain.
In 1868 the Association of Engineers and Architects of Mexico (AIAM Asociación de Ingenieros y Arquitectos de México) was founded.
On June 6, 1905, the architects came together to form the Society of Mexican Architects (SAM Sociedad de Arquitectos Mexicanos).
On March 18, 1919, the Association of Architects of Mexico (AAM Asociación de Arquitectos de México) was legally constituted.
When the Professions Law was presented in 1945, the National Guild of Architects of Mexico (CNAM Colegio Nacional de Arquitectos de México) was created.
On November 20, 1964, 22 state representatives met at Avenida Veracruz #24, Roma Norte, Mexico City, headquarters of the National College of Architects of Mexico CNAM to work on the project for the formation of the Federación de Colegios de Arquitectos de la República Mexicana FCARM.
On April 22, 1965, also at the headquarters of the National College of Architects of Mexico (CNAM) is founded Federación de Colegios de Arquitectos de la República Mexicana AC FCARM. having three founding members:
The Colegio Sonrense de Arquitectos AC currently Colegio de Arquitectos de la Ciudad de Hermosillo AC; the Colegio de Arquitectos de México AC currently Colegio de Arquitectos de la Ciudad de México AC and the Colegio de Arquitectos de Chihuahua AC.
Despite only having 3 founding members, representatives from Aguascalientes, Coahuila, Chihuahua, Durango, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Jalisco, State of Mexico, Michoacán, Morelos, Sinaloa, Nuevo León, Sonora, Oaxaca, Tamaulipas, Puebla, Veracruz, and Yucatan attended that meeting.
The First National Congress and First National Assembly of FCARM took place in the city of Guanajuato, Guanajuato from April 28 to May 1, 1965, with architect Alejandro Prieto, president of the Federación de Colegios de Arquitectos de la República Mexicana AC. The opening day featured emotional speeches from special guests; The inauguration was in charge of Mr. Architect Jorge L. Medellín, Undersecretary of National Heritage and representative of the President of the Republic, Mr. Gustavo Díaz Ordaz and Mr. Daniel Chowell Cázares, rector of the University of Guanajuato in addition to the speech of the architect Joaquín Álvarez Ordoñez. While for the closing, the speech was in charge of Lic. Juan José Torres Landa, governor of the State of Guanajuato.
Today our federation is made up of 78 architects’ associations distributed throughout the Mexican Republic and we are the only architects guild organization in Mexico and we represent Mexican architects before the International Union of Architects and the Pan-American Federation of Architects Associations.
